Olmsted is a small village located in Pulaski County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of Olmsted was 291. The village is situated at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. The closest larger cities are Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Paducah, Kentucky. Olmsted was founded in the 1850s as a river port, and it became an important transportation hub for the timber and coal industries. Today, the village is primarily a residential community, with a few small businesses.
